Il raccolto di patate 04 dell'UE-2021 dipenderà più dai raccolti che dalle aree seminate

This year, according to a recent North Western European Potato Growers (NEPG) press release, EU-04’s potato harvest will be much more dependent on the production per hectare than the sown areas.

In the present days, the NEPG’s countries (EU-04 – Belgium, The Netherlands, France and Germania) stanno affrontando una contrazione del 4,7% nelle aree seminate a patate da 522,300 a 497,700 ha (-24,600 ha), hanno aggiunto gli esperti dell'organizzazione.

“C'è stata una diminuzione in tutti i Paesi, ma soprattutto in Belgio e Paesi Bassi, che hanno registrato i più forti incrementi di superficie negli ultimi anni, e che sono anche gli unici ad avere una superficie inferiore alla media dei 5 anni! Si tratta di un evento storico, perché l'area è generalmente aumentata di anno in anno negli ultimi due decenni”, come riporta il comunicato.

L'elenco delle incognite è ancora considerevole

Costi di produzione più elevati e nuove sfide

The production costs for the 2021-2022 growing season are already announced. According to the NEPG’s press release, the potato farmers will face an increase in the costs of sprays against mildew, in energy prices (diesel and electricity), and in fertilizer prices (liquid nitrogen has seen its price double in a few months, for example). Not to be mentioned everything related to construction: insulation materials, concrete, steel and wood have also increased dramatically.

I produttori sono anche molto consapevoli delle nuove sfide da affrontare: sono necessarie più varietà, durevoli e più robuste, siano esse più resistenti alla peronospora o più tolleranti alla siccità e al caldo. C'è anche bisogno di varietà che richiedono meno fertilizzanti e sono più efficienti.
